Netherlands Insurance GS

The LGC match against the Netherlands Insurance GS at Royal Porthcawl G.C. could not take place sadly, owing to Dutch travel restrictions and Covid quarantining rules. However, our team seized the opportunity to play this wonderful course by changing the fixture to an all-LGC event. RPGC is without doubt one of the great links courses of the British Isles and is recognised as the Number 1 golf club in Wales. Looking west over the Gower and south towards Exmoor, the sea can be seen from every hole. It has hosted six Amateur Championships, a Walker Cup (Woods’ last match as an amateur), three Senior Opens and countless top international Ladies competitions.
On day one, LGC members played four-ball golf amongst themselves, followed by supper at the local brasserie in the harbour. On the second day, LGC played a 18 hole foursomes match against RPGC members and achieved a very respectable 3.5 – 2.5 win. We are deeply grateful to RPGC for their warm welcome and flexibility in enabling the hastily revised plans to go ahead. The event was such a success that it is hoped we may be able to hold a repeat match vs RPGC following the Dutch match next year.
