The match started in drizzle, but this soon cleared and although there was considerable surface water the course played remarkably well.
By lunchtime we even had some sun and as usual WH put on a fine lunch
With the match standing at Lloyds 3.5 Poets 2.5 a number of toasts took place during lunch including welcoming the Poets Life president and their Captain. Both having recently assumed these positions
Additionally, LGC welcomed a new member Harry Reilly to his first match.
The LGC captain advised that the historical result was LGC 5 Poets 4.
The teams then embarked onto the new course for the afternoons battle and the weather was fine.
Unfortunately LGC’s golf was not.
After several hard-fought battles with many matches going to the 18th and the light failing due some rather slow play, the scores were tabulated.
LGC had lost all six matches in the afternoon! thus the result was LGC 3.5, Poets 8.5
The Captain congratulated the Poets on their formidable victory whilst the LGC members hung their heads.
A good opener especially as there were a number of new LGC members to the fixture but obviously a very disappointing result.
