Battle Back match played on Thursday. Although a 3-2 loss this year, the match is now 2-2 since its inception which is a nice position to be in. It was also a close match, going to the last hole of the last game. Will, NZGC have offered me Thursday 13th June for next year. If this is ok I will firm up with Battle Back.
Thank you to LGC for their contribution to the Battle Back costs. NZGC, as always, presented the course in superb condition, and the service is second to none.
All in all, a very enjoyable day out. As I mentioned at lunch on the day, this match means a lot more than the golf (I am not saying this because we lost!), and is always a humbling experience. Our opposition consisted of veterans with a wide range of physical and mental disabilities, but a common love of the game and an appreciation of the therapeutic value it can offer. Indeed, one of my opposition explained to me how important golf is in managing his PTSD (although, I sometimes find golf incredibly stressful!!) and how without it he would be lost. A special mention to the LGC Captain who promised and delivered a point with his playing partner, Mr. Groom. I was also fortunate to play against an old Sergeant who I knew while serving which was nice.
