Led by our Captain and Match Manager, Simon Allport, our next event saw us return to New Zealand Golf Club to take on the Insurance Golf Society, formerly known as the Insurance Golf Society of London, against whom we have been playing since 1925, so this is one of our oldest fixtures.
Thankfully, despite a weather forecast of constant rain, not a drop fell, and we enjoyed dry humid conditions in the morning, with the sun appearing at noon and staying with us for the rest of the day
Lloyd’s went into lunch leading 3.5 to 1.5. It should be noted that Robin Clark and David Gilchrist having prevailed early in their match, continued to the 18th and completed their round with a total of 66 shots, gross. A remarkable achievement by two of our Past Presidents.
As ever, the staff at New Zealand looked after us magnificently with delicious food and wine, and with our appetites and thirsts sated, the afternoon saw Lloyd’s take another three matches to produce an overall win 6.5 – 3.5.
Congratulations to the team and to new member Jonathan Suckling in his LGC debut.
