The Himalayans match sees LGC compete against LGC members who are also members of The Royal St. George’s G.C. (‘The Himalayans’) on their home turf. Our opponents take their name from the famous Himalaya bunker on the 4th at RSG, the largest bunker in the UK. With a dinner in Sandwich the night before, this is a fun and deservedly popular fixture towards the end of our season.
As you can from the photos (shown: President, Hon. Sec and Captain), it was an absolutely glorious day, which clearly inspired the LGC side who romped away in the morning to sit comfortably 7-1 at lunchtime. Fortified by the usual wonderful RSG lunch, the Himalayans fought back and were stronger in the afternoon but could not make up the deficit, with Lloyd’s winning the match overall. (10.5 – 5.5)
It was also good to see several of the LGC ladies (Sally Coryn, Hayley Todd and Ciara Svensen) take on RSG (a venue that only started admitting lady members in 2015) with all three contributing towards their team’s points. LGC has a small but growing number of female members and the club is keen to attract more, so if you know of women in the Lloyd’s market who play golf, and might be interested, please do ask them to get in touch with the Hon. Sec. (email@example.com).
