The Hogg Trough

A silver trough presented in 1895 by John Hogg, the Club's President in 1980, and awarded to the winners of the Summer Meeting's second knockout competition, for which the entrants are the pairs who finish 9th to 16th in the Saturday morning Stableford.

The title derives from a nickname (‘Captain Pig') given to Hogg during his year of captaincy by his great friend and fellow Club member, Ralph Rokeby-Johnson. When Rokeby-Johnson heard aobut the trophy he immediately said it could only be in the form of a trough, a suggestion which was readily taken by the donor.
